Greetings from the Academy of Management (AoM) Conference in Atlanta!

The Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM) Division is very excited about this year's schedule. While we highlight only our events here, don't forget that a key benefit of AoM is the ability to interact directly with top scholars from other disciplines "At the Interface" of OSCM.

Day 1 of the PDWs is underway, with our main event today the journal faculty and doctoral consortium. The vibrant program has covered research and career dilemmas, and as always includes lengthy small-group research discussions with senior faculty.

Tonight is the Academy-wide Exhibit Hall opening reception at the Hyatt Regency Grand Hall from 6-8p. Bring your drink ticket (for your own personal use or for sharing!) and enjoy some time with the exhibitors. Drop by the OSCM new member table for some information about the division.

TOMORROW, Saturday, we have several great PDWS:

Crafting an Effective Journal Review [free registration required]

    Time: Saturday, 8:00AM – 10:00AM, Hilton 306

Organizer: Barbara B Flynn (Indiana U.)

And, we want to be sure you do not miss the Journal of Supply Chain Management (JSCM) event Saturday night, which is listed as an ICW ("In Conjunction With") in the program, not as part of the OSCM list of events; especially for those using the APP, you could miss it!

Greetings again from the Academy of Management (AoM) Conference in Atlanta!

The Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM) Division is very excited about this year's schedule. While we highlight only our events here, don't forget that a key benefit of AoM is the ability to interact directly with top scholars from other disciplines "At the Interface" of OSCM.

Day 2 of the PDWs is complete. All sessions were well-attended and thought-provoking. If you've never come to AoM for the PDWs, you have missed a truly unique and rewarding conference experience.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the JSCM reception (again, not listed as an OSCM event but as an ICW) tonight at 5:30 in Hilton 305.

Tomorrow, Sunday, is the "All Academy Theme" day. Within OSCM, we have a great schedule:

6:45am (departing at 7): Morning jog at the Hilton Concierge Desk. I scouted the 10K route today; assuming those who said they will show actually do show we'll have runners and walkers. The route goes through "Sweet Auburn" past Martin Luther King's boyhood home, church and burial place, up the Eastern Belt Line run/bike trail, skirts Piedmont Park, and then back to the hotel through mid-town.

Then, unless you find great sessions in other divisions, I hope you spend your time from 2:30 on with us:

2:30-4, Hilton Galleria 6: our "business meeting" where we discuss our five-year review, announce award finalists (and a couple of winners) and discuss plans for the future. Please bring your ideas!

4:15-5:45, also at Hilton Galleria 6, the Journal of Operations Management (JOM) Jack Meredith Best Paper Session [this is also listed as an ICW; so you will not find it in the OSCM section of the app!]. Dan Guide and Mikko Ketokivi will update us on the journal, present some paper awards, and possibly announce who the new editors-in-chief will be!

6-8, Hilton 305: Our Division Social! Enjoy drinks and some food and, most importantly, networking with your colleagues.

Another option within the division is to attend one of the two discussion paper sessions; one on Operations Strategy and Organization at 2pm (Hilton 309) and one on Managing Inter-Organizational Relationships at 3:45pm (Hilton 309).

Enjoy the conference, and see you soon!

Indeed, tomorrow at I will be presenting in an 8-9:30 session on "Culture and Distance" in the IM (International Management) Division [Marriott LobbyL405]! While most of you will probably choose to sleep in or to get a free breakfast and opportunity to meet the editors of OSCM journals (see below), maybe I'll see a few of you there.

"All academy" Sunday is now complete. After our 10K morning jog, we had a well-attended business meeting, in which, among other things, we awarded the OSCM Distinguished Scholar to Steven Melnyk of Michigan State, and the OSCM Service Award to Dayna Simpson of Monash University. Both well-deserved!

The Journal of Operations Management session followed, with the biggest news being the naming of incoming Editors-in-Chief, Suzanne de Treville and Tyson Browning. Also, the Jack Meredith Best Paper Award (based largely on 5-year citation) was awarded to Tobias Schoenherr and Morgan Swink, for their 2012 paper "Revisiting the arcs of integration: Cross-validations and extensions" and the Ambassador Award (based on citations outside of OM journal) to Jose Holguin-Veras, Miguel Jaller, Luk Van Wassenhove, Noel Perez, and Tricia Wachtendorf for their 2012 paper "On the unique features of post-disaster humanitarian logistics". Best AE and Reviewer awards were given as well.

Our OSCM reception followed with great food (filet mignon, etc.), drink, and-most importantly-great conversations. The room was a bit small, but the food and drink were abundant and a good time was had by all.

Monday we hit the scholarly sessions. Please check your schedule for the usual paper sessions. All papers were complete papers in January and were reviewed by three reviews, so the quality tends to be high.

Here, I highlight just a few things:

    1)      OSCM Breakfast (8am), followed by meet the editors from multiple OSCM journals; including the new editors of JOM. (Hilton Atlanta, Grand Ballroom B)

    2)      OSCM co-sponsored Symposium: Implementing Transformational Change. (Marriott Marquis, Atrium A703)

    3)      Our plenary (11:30-1; Hilton Grand Ballroom B) provides a fantastic opportunity to hear from Linda Argote of Carnegie Mellon, a truly leading scholar (over 25,000 google scholar citations). She will discuss recent findings in the areas of organizational learning and knowledge management.  The implications of these findings for the field of Operations and Supply Chain Management will be developed.  Future research directions at the intersection of the fields or organizational learning and operations and supply chain management will be charted. Light snacks will be provided.

    4)      Best Student paper (1:15-2:45), Chan Hahn Best Paper (3-4:30), and ISM Best Paper in Supply Chain Management (4:45-6:15). See program for rooms. In all cases, winners will be announced at the end of the sessions.

    5)      And, for the third straight night we will have a reception, this one sponsored by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM). Enjoy more drinks, food, and networking (Hilton Grand Ballroom C, 6:15-8:15).

Enjoy the conference, and see you soon!
