Message from Division Chair

The Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM) Division of the Academy of Management (AOM) brings together a vibrant, global community of leading empirical scholars in operations and supply chain management. Each year, the AOM Annual Meeting, held in July or August, remains a personal highlight—drawing over 10,000 scholars from diverse disciplines. The conference offers an exceptional blend of peer-reviewed research sessions, professional development workshops, and high-quality networking opportunities that continue to inspire and energize our community. As Chair of the Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM) Division of the Academy of Management (AOM), I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of such a dynamic and globally connected community of scholars.

Our division has undertaken several initiatives to serve the OSCM community and beyond. The DEI Assistant Grant promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) by supporting doctoral students and junior faculty from developing countries who face structural and financial barriers to conference participation. The New Member “Buddy” Program welcomes new members to our division, shares tips and tricks on how to make the best of what AOM and the OSCM division has to offer and creates awareness of activities and how AOM and OSCM division can be a springboard. The On-Site Tours during the Annual Conference give an opportunity to members of the OSCM division and beyond to visit a site, gain access to behind-the-scenes functioning of the site to learn how things are managed, offer valuable insights into daily practices, technologies, and problem-solving approaches, and provide opportunities for networking among AOM members, and with representatives of the site. The Regional Ambassador Program enables engagement with our global community in five regions (Asia, Australia, Europe, Middle East/North Africa and South America) all year round, expands global reach and engagement, promotes localized knowledge sharing, and encourages cross-regional collaboration.

Each year during the annual AOM conference, the OSCM division carefully curates several enlightening and motivating sessions and panel discussions. The Doctoral and Junior Faculty Consortium enables learning from mentors by spending an entire day discussing topics related to research, teaching, service, and academic career. There are sessions organized by leading empirically oriented journals in our field, including the Journal of Operations Management and the Journal of Supply Chain Management. The Plenary Session brings together practitioners, policy makers, and academics to discuss a topic that is of interest to OSCM division members. The DEI Session provides an opportunity to discuss research, teaching, and service-related issues.  The division provides an opportunity to meet editors of some of the leading journals of our field through the Meet the Editors session. The division also organizes a Morning Run Sessionduring the annual conference that provides a great opportunity for members to connect informally, foster new collaborations, and start the day energized through shared physical activity.

With assistance from highly qualified scholars who serve as judges, the OSCM division gives out several awards for best papers during the conference. The Chan Hahn Best Paper Award is given to the best paper that is accepted for presentation within the OSCM division. The Best Student Paper Award is given to a paper in which a student is the lead author. The ISM Best Supply Chain Management Paper is given to a paper that makes a significant contribution to supply chain management theory and practice. The Outstanding Reviewers Awards honor service contributions of reviewers who submit high quality reviews and help in strengthening the quality of the conference and the Distinguished Service Award is given to the elected community member who completes the five-year term of providing service to the OSCM division. Finally, each year the OSCM division of the Academy of Management bestows a Distinguished Scholar Award to a leading global scholar in our community. It recognizes commitment to serve the operations and supply chain field, both as a whole and within the Academy of Management, and honors scholarly excellence which has helped to shape both the field’s body of knowledge and practice.
