📢 How do we make sense of messy empirical data and turn it into compelling paradox theorising?
We are very excited to launch the first station of our new Paradox PDW Series - a shared developmental journey through different stages of paradox research, from interpreting empirical material to theorising and navigating the publication process.
🚉 STATION 1: Data Interpretation & Framing
📅 June 26, 2026
🕗 08:00–10:00 ET | 14:00–16:00 CEST
💻 Virtual Workshop
This PDW is especially designed for scholars working with complex empirical material, qualitative theorising, and paradox research - while also being open to related research perspectives more broadly. Together, we aim to openly discuss one of the most challenging - and often most exciting - parts of research:
👉 interpreting empirical data and developing theoretical insights from it.
We are especially grateful to have an amazing panel joining us:
🌟 Wendy K. Smith (University of Delaware)
🌟 Harald Tuckermann (University of St. Gallen)
🌟 Simone Carmine (IÉSEG School of Management)
This PDW is designed as an interactive and developmental session, including:
🔹 A panel discussion in which the panelists will share their own approaches to working with empirical data and reflect collectively on data interpretation and theorising processes
🔹 Three developmental paper discussions where selected presenters introduce their datasets or condensed extracts and receive collective feedback and reflections from panelists and participants
🔹 A concluding collaborative reflection on framing, theorising, and moving projects forward
The research process itself is deeply paradoxical - as scholars, especially in the early stages of our careers, we constantly navigate tensions between openness and structure, complexity and simplicity, induction and deduction, novelty and continuity. This workshop also creates a collaborative developmental space to explore how such tensions can become productive sources of theorising, framing, and methodological creativity.

We will select three presenters for in-depth workshop discussions. Selected presenters will receive feedback on their empirical material and theorising approaches from our panelists and participants in a supportive environment. Everyone interested is warmly welcome to participate, and there are no workshop fees involved.
🗓 Application & Registration Deadline: June 12, 2026
We would be delighted to welcome you 😊
