The Academy of Management's PDW preregistration site is open.  I am leading a workshop that should be of interest to many OSCM division members.  Attendance is limited to 40 people, and last year we found that many of the spots for our methodology workshop were taken early by attendees from other divisions.  While it is great to have an interdisciplinary audience, our primary goal in developing this workshop was to put something together that would be useful for our OSCM division members.

The workshop focuses on becoming an effective ad hoc reviewer, and it was developed by the editors of several leading journals (in addition to Mark Pagell, Brian Fugate, Lutz Kauffman and me, Tom Goldsby and Wendy Tate are also part of the workshop team). We are hoping to help develop common standards among young reviewers and help participants learn how to write a review that is useful to the editors, while being development and respectful for the authors.  As such, the workshop is primarily targeted at faculty members who are young in their career and doctoral students, although more experienced faculty members are also welcome.

Here is the preregistration information, including the approval code that will need to be entered. I'd appreciate it if you could distribute this to our OSCM division members.

    Session title:

    Crafting an Effective Journal Review

Time:  8:00-10:00 am, Saturday, August 5

    Location:  Hilton Atlanta, Room 306

Session description:  This workshop focuses on skills and mindsets for effective ad-hoc reviewers, with the goal of understanding how to craft a written manuscript review that is professional, developmental, respectful of authors' dignity and supportive of collegiality. Although this PDW is targeted at those with limited reviewing experience, it is also appropriate for experienced reviewers. Through a mix of presentations, discussions and hands-on activities, topics covered include the benefits of serving as an ad-hoc reviewer, the responsibilities of scholarly citizenship, the ethics of reviewing, key questions to address in reviewing a manuscript and what constitutes a fatal flaw. A template for reporting to authors and editors will be developed.
