Subject: PDW Announcement for OM Division Website
I'd appreciate it if you would post the following on the OM Division website - thanks!
PDW: Pushing the Methodological Frontiers of Survey Research
Barbara B. Flynn, Mikko Ketokivi and Dan Guide
The purpose of this workshop is to provide an opportunity for OM/SCM researchers, particularly those who do survey research, to have an opportunity to learn about ways to deal with emerging methodological challenges. Since survey research moved into mainstream OM/SCM research during the 1980s, it has made considerable advances in analytical methods and theory development. However, there are still some issues that are not well addressed by OM/SCM researchers. As the standards for empirical research continue to escalate, these types of issues will lead to more papers being rejected. Thus, this workshop weeks to address some of the "blind spots" in much of the current OM/SCM research, helping researchers to become aware of their importance and developing ways to address them.
In particular, a recent editorial in Journal of Operations Management, entitled "Redefining Some Methodological Criteria for the Journal," described issues relating to causality and endogeneity, understanding which rules of thumb are based on solid inference, depth of understanding of tools such as partial least squares and moving beyond paying lip service to common method bias as critical for survey research that is published in top quality journals. This workshop provides a forum for discussing these issues with experts and colleagues, as a way of elevating the quality of OM/SCM research.
The workshop will have both morning and afternoon sessions on Saturday, August 6, at the Sheraton Park Hotel in Anaheim. It is limited to 47 participants and pre-registration is required (there is no charge for the workshop). A waiting list will be maintained, once the workshop is full. You are encouraged to register for it ASAP, if you are interested, since participants from other divisions have already indicated interest and have begun pre-registering for it.
To pre-register for this workshop, please go to the following link:
http://aom.org/annualmeeting/registration/pdw/. You will need to also be registered for the Academy of Management conference, in order to pre-register. You will be asked to provide an approval code when you register. The approval codes for the two sessions are listed below. We strongly recommend that you make a day of it and pre-register for the entire day. If you have any questions or run into issues pre-registering, please contact Barb Flynn at
