    Dear OM Division Members

This year, we will run Professional Development Workshops for our Division at the Academy of Management meeting (Anaheim, August 5-9). Several of these sessions require pre-registration owing to limits on the number of participants. Below you will find advanced information on 3 of this year's PDW sessions that we encourage you to register for early. Please contact the organizers for further details:

Paper Development Workshop for Operations and Innovation Management Research

    Time: Friday 9:00AM – 11:00AM

Organizer: Lydia Bals (University of Applied Sciences Mainz)

Do you have a draft paper in the broad fields of Operations Management (OM) or Technology and Innovation Management (TIM) that you plan to submit to a journal outside the main scholarly domain? Would you like to benefit from an in-depth developmental and constructive review by some of the leading scholars in the management field? This PDW at the Academy of Management conference brings together researchers with the aim of submitting their papers to high quality management journals outside their main scholarly domain. The workshop aims to help in improving manuscripts prior to journal submission. The mentoring team consists of top scholars who are (or have served as) editors, associate editors or editorial advisory board members or have successfully published in top management journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Research Policy, and Strategic Management Journal.

Participation: Pre-conference application and registration required. More information available at: lydia.bals@hs-mainz.de. Please send your manuscript by June 13, 2016 to: lydia.bals@hs-mainz.de.

Teaching Service Design in an OM/SCM Course

    Time: Friday 12:00PM - 1:30PM

Organizer: Scott Sampson (Brigham Young University)

If you want to enhance your OM or introductory Supply Chain course with some fascinating material then this workshop is for you.  We will review how to easily and effectively teach service design in one or two class sessions.  Our OM and SCM students love service design because of how it relates to their daily living.  The workshop will cover service design techniques for documenting service operations, analyzing operating characteristics, and identifying opportunities for process improvement.  Instructional materials will be provided that you can distribute to your students.

Participation: For more information about the workshop and to sign up go to http://services.byu.edu/workshop

Pushing the Methodological Frontiers of Survey Research I & II

    Time: Saturday 8:00AM - 4:30PM

Organizers: Barb Flynn (Indiana University), Mikko Ketokivi (IE Business School), Daniel Guide (Penn State)

The purpose of this workshop is to provide an opportunity for OM/SCM researchers, particularly those who do survey research, to have an opportunity to learn about ways to deal with emerging methodological challenges. Since survey research moved into mainstream OM/SCM research during the 1980s, it has made considerable advances in analytical methods and theory development. However, there are still some issues that are not well addressed by OM/SCM researchers.  As the standards for empirical research continue to escalate, these types of issues will lead to more papers being rejected.  Thus, this workshop weeks to address some of the "blind spots" in much of the current OM/SCM research, helping researchers to become aware of their importance and developing ways to address them.

Participation: Pre-conference application and registration required. Please see details in the brochure attached.
