    Dear Colleagues,

For those attending the Academy of Management 2019 Conference in Boston, please join the following OSCM-related workshops.

Session #605: OSCM Sunday Café I – "Emerging sustainability standards – How SCM scholars can get involved? A discussion with Lisa McAuley, CEO of Global Trade Professionals Alliance"

Organizers: Lisa McAuley (GTPA), Niels Strazdins (GTPA), Zhaohui Wu (Oregon State U), Dayna Simpson (Monash U), and Anne Quarshie (LUT University).

Date: Sunday, Aug 11, 2019 at 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Westin Copley Place Boston: Room Defender.

Abstract: An informal discussion in relation to new ISO standards relevant to transparency and chain-of-custody, and how sustainable SCM can be incorporated in these standards. The intent is to engage scholars in exploring research opportunities with GPTA. Areas of interests include Chain of Custody (CoC), product safety and security, social impact, environmental impacts and regulatory compliance. The session will appeal to scholars working on environmental and social issues in supply chains and the role of standards.

Session #626: OSCM Sunday Café II – "Women Academics in OSCM"

Organizers: Wendy Tate (University of Tennessee) and Lisa Ellram (Miami University).

Date: Sunday, Aug 11, 2019 at 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Westin Copley Place Boston:  Room North Star

Abstract: Women academics play a key role in the field of OSCM.  This café is a chance for women faculty and PhD students to network and have an open discussion on issues such as:

    1.    What are some ways that women can support other women with a discussion around mentoring, networking, inclusion, etc.

    2.    How can we balance work and life and still get tenure and promotion?

    3.    How should we deal with the service component of our jobs?

Session# 809 (ICW): "To Identity and Beyond in Purchasing and Supply Management"

Organizers: Lisa Ellram (Miami University), Wendy Tate (University of Tennessee), Stephan Wagner (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich), and Craig Carter (Arizona State University).

Date: Sunday, August 11 at 12:30 PM -3:00 PM at Westin Copley Place Boston: Room Empire.

Please join us for a lively discussion on the identity of the purchasing function at the AoM conference in Boston on August 11th, 12:30-3:00, Westin Hotel, Empire Room. Purchasing is truly one of the world's oldest professions, but it continues to remain relatively small as a discipline. This ICW is an opportunity to bring purchasing and supply management (P&SM) researchers from all over the world together to discuss the future of purchasing in academia, and perhaps chart a future course for shaping the discipline. This will build on topics from the International Purchasing Supply Education and Research Association (IPSERA) session "Identity and the Future of P&SM (Milan, April 2019). All P&SM researchers are welcome whether they participated in the session or not.  This workshop will create a venue for meeting other researchers in P&SM, and provide a forum to discuss topics such as:

    1.           Is P&SM an academic discipline?

    2.           Should P&SM seek to more formally become an academic discipline? What are the associated risks and rewards?

    3.           Should P&SM build its own theories?

    4.           Is P&SM a subset of OM, SCM or another discipline?

    5.            Where do we go from here?

    6.            What are some interesting research problems that are specific for the future P&SM?

    7.            What are some ways that we can build a stronger P&SM community?

We look forward to a lively discussion in this ICW that will help re-energize the PSM community.  The P&SM North American Research Symposium (NARS) lost its sponsorship and the community lost a key venue for discussions like the ones mentioned above. The goal is to engage in discussions that involve scholars from across the globe.  Share this with others in your network that are interested in PSM that are attending the Academy of Management Annual Meeting.

Session #225 (SIM, OSCM, ONE, PNP): "The Promise and Problems of Inclusive Organizing: Socratic Dialogues for Grand Challenges"

Date: Friday, Aug 9, 2019 at 4:45PM - 6:45PM at Boston Marriott Copley Place: Room Grand Ballroom Salon G.

Organizers: Jennifer Leigh (Nazareth College), Anne Quarshie (LUT University), Arno Kourula (U. of Amsterdam), Lea Stadtler (Grenoble Ecole de Management), and May Seitanidi (U. of Kent).

Abstract: This session addresses the theme of "inclusive organizing" by hosting a high-level conversation between practitioners and academics about inclusivity within, across, and beyond organizations extending the discussion to the domain of collective governance. We highlight examples of inclusive organizing related to grand challenges such as energy management, quality education, and system transformation. We accomplish this by hosting three public conversations with senior managers from high-profile and grassroots organizations and networks seeking to use inter- organizational approaches for enhanced inclusivity. We employ the Socratic Method of public dialogue to develop the collective capacity for shared wisdom led by expert researchers in social issues, cross-sector partnerships, and supply chain management.
