With apologies for cross-posting.
We invite submissions for abstracts to the International QCA Paper Development Workshop 2020 (ONLINE).
The International QCA Paper Development Workshop 2020 provides a unique platform for researchers working on papers involving QCA to meet QCA experts, get feedback on their on-going research, and learn about the latest methodological developments in QCA. The workshop is interdisciplinary and interactive and allows for in-depth discussions and individual feedback from internationally renowned QCA scholars. This year the International QCA Paper Development Workshop 2020 will take place online.
Through this Call for Abstracts, we invite submissions from researchers that are using QCA for the first time, but are at a mid- or advanced stage in the application of QCA. This means that a dataset has already been constructed and that preliminary or advanced results are already available at the time of abstract submission. This Call for Abstracts is open to all researchers working in various domains (e.g. sociology, political science, management, international relations, medicine and health, evaluation studies), as well as to policy and business consultants using QCA in their work.
This year's workshop faculty includes among others the following scholars from various disciplines with substantive experience in using, developing, and teaching QCA:
Preliminary Workshop Program
The International QCA Paper Development Workshop primarily consists of roundtable forums for participants to receive detailed feedback from QCA experts on their ongoing research projects. The workshop will begin with roundtable forums organized in small groups in which participants will receive detailed feedback on their submitted papers from at least two QCA experts. The workshop program will also include two focused sessions providing participants with practical information on small-n and large-n QCA, and an additional panel session where young researchers will talk about their own experience (challenges and opportunities) in applying QCA. As this year the workshop is online, further opportunities for interactions between participants and faculty beyond the scheduled sessions might be available upon request.
Submission Procedure, Schedule and Best Paper Award
To participate in the workshop, please submit an extended abstract of 1,000-1,500 words to email@example.com by 5th October 2020. Besides summarizing your study's topical area, theoretical background, research gap and question, your abstract should give a detailed account of the constructed dataset (number of cases, data collection strategy) and include results at a preliminary or at a more advanced stage. A panel of QCA experts will review all submissions and evaluate their fit with the workshop according to mid/advanced stage of the research, clarity of purpose, methodological rigor and innovative character of the performed study. We will notify applicants no later than 19th October 2020. Accepted participants will have to submit a full paper - a version as complete as possible - by 9th November 2020 by using a pre-defined template (max. 15 pages) that we will circulate in due time. A panel of experts will review all full papers submitted in time to recognize the authors of outstanding submissions with the 2020 Best Paper Award.
Workshop Fee, PhD Travel Stipend, Hosting and Venue
Participation in the workshop is free of charge. Accepted participants will be notified by email with the updated program of the workshop and will be provided with Zoom links for the scheduled sessions. We will try to schedule sessions considering the participants' time zones.
