Session 1822: The Fun and Challenges of Collaborative Teaching and Learning

Collaborative Teaching has many facets: co-teaching; curriculum, syllabus and course development; and teaching method. Benefits include, for example, creating interactive learning environments or facilitating teaching of critical thinking within or across disciplines. Co-teaching requires balancing of disciplines and fair sharing of workloads. Trust in one's fellow instructor(s) is crucial as are consistency in class goals and activities, teacher and student roles, learning outcomes, and grading. Group settings mean dealing with free-riders, involving disengaged students, and tackling student assessment as well as adequately managing student expectations. Collaborative teaching comes with challenges, but is also particularly rewarding - both for faculty and students. This session brings together experienced educators and program leaders who shed light on how to reap the rewards of collaborative teaching in strategic management.
